The AC/GC girls’ cross country team picked up another impressive victory at the Madrid meet yesterday, while the Charger boys finished fourth in the meet. The girls had four runners finish in the top seven, as Kate Crawford once again led the pack with a time of 20:26 and Emma Swanson followed closely with a second place time of 20:40. Lauryn Embleton finished fourth in 22:01 and Rylee Sloss placed seventh in 23:04. Jackie Trujillo-Garcia was fourteenth with a time of 25:25 to round out the ACGC scoring. The Chargers totaled 28 points with runnerup Madrid scoring 48. Coach Collin Shawgo praised his team’s performance, saying, “The girls’ performed as expected, with Kate Crawford and Emma Swanson both putting in great races. Lauryn and Rylee both showed a lot of determination to place in the top ten, and with Jackie rounding out the scoring, the girls proved why they are a top team in the state.” To demonstrate the team’s depth, the next five runners for the Chargers would have finished fourth if they had competed as a separate team, as they would have totaled 101 points. Alyson Embleton, Malena Rumelhart, and Sabrina Ure finished sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth respectively in times of 25:44, 25:47, and 26:07. Other Charger runners and their times included Audrey Chmelar (26:27), Kennedy Young (26:50, Sara Schmeling (27:06), Kenzie Reinhart (27:07), Kendra Campbell (27:55), and Reagan Rumelhart (28:34). The Charger boys’ team was paced by Noah Nelson who finished second with a time of 17:25, and Clay Billheimer who was fourth in a time of 18:11. Other ACGC runners who figured in the scoring were Garrett Young in eighteenth place with a time of 19:31, Quenton Spack in twentieth place at 19:42, and Easton Benson in twenty second place at 20:26. Following closely behind were Ben Young (20:28) and Gunnar Larsen (20:29). Also running for the Chargers were Zach Moon (20:52), Donnie Swanson (21:02), Blaine Beeler, (21:38), Noah Sargent (22:05), Joe Davis (22:07), Matt Hanner (22:21), Nash Ayers (22:24), and Sam Madsen (22:31). “The boys had much more of a challenge,” Shawgo commented. “We were on the losing side of a tight four team race. Their response to this adversity at next week’s meet will be a big factor in determining how far they can go this year.
