The AC/GC volleyball team made quick work of West Central Valley last night in the Chargers initial home match, dropping the Wildcats in straight sets, 25-14, 25-16, 25-14 in a WCAC contest. In a match that was only one hour in length the local girls dominated throughout. The only time the Chargers trailed was early in the second set. With the score tied at seven apiece, AC/GC scored five consecutive points with Makayla Hoing serving to take a 12-7 lead. After that the Chargers never looked back in recording their sixth consecutive win. “We had a great night from the serving line with 27 aces,” Charger coach Lyndsey Noe commented. “Our focus for the night was minimizing our unforced errors, and the girls did a great job of controlling the ball.” The 27 aces is a season high for the team. Hoing led the hitting with 19 of 20 successful hits and 9 kills, Jadeyn Carrick was 11 of 11 with 5 kills, and Mady Smith had 4 kills on 8 of 13 hits. Olivia Laabs was the top server with 19 of 21 successful serves and 5 aces. Hoing went 12 for 14 with 5 aces, with Genevieve Hoover going 12/15 with 6 aces. Savana Fuller led in aces with 7 on 9 of 11 serving. Laabs and Smith led the team in digs with 6 each, while Chelsea Larsen was tops in assists with 15. Carrick and Fuller both had 3 blocks to lead the team in that category. The victory improves the team’s overall record to 6-1, and 2-0 in conference play. West Central Valley falls to 0-10 overall and 0-3 in WCAC play. The Chargers next action will be this Saturday at the Griswold tournament, with action to begin at 9 AM.
