Charger Girls to Face AHSTW in First Round of Regional Basketball Tournament


The Iowa Girls' High School Athletic Union announced the pairings for classes 1A, 2A and 3A regional basketball tournaments yesterday. ACGC is a class 2A team and will open tourney play at Avoca versus the host Avoca/Hancock-Shelby-Tenant-Walnut Vikings at 7 PM on Saturday, February 10. Through games played on Tuesday of this week AHSTW is 5-11 on the season, while the Chargers' record is 2-15. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals to play once defeated and second ranked Treynor at Treynor on Tuesday, February 13 at 7 PM.

Other schools in the upper bracket include Council Bluffs St. Albert, Sidney, and Underwood. Lower bracket teams are I-35, Wayne (Corydon), Clarinda, Southwest Valley (Corning), Mt. Ayr, and Nodaway Valley. One of the twelve teams in Region 7 will advance to the state tournament to be played at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines during the week of February 26-March 3.
