First year head girls' track coach Collin Shawgo has some lofty goals for his team as the outdoor season begins on Monday at Greene County High School in Jefferson. With numerous state qualifiers returning, Shawgo anticipates that the Chargers can compete for the WCAC title.

He has been quoted as saying, "This years team should be really good. It will be an exciting spring for ACGC track and field." Returning state qualifiers include Kate Crawford in the 800, 1500 and 3000 meter runs; Lauryn Embleton in the 3000 meter run; Emma Swanson in the 1500 meter run; Sara Schmeling in the long jump; Olivia Laabs in the 400 meter hurdles; Madison McDermott in the shot put; Savana Fuller in 200 meter dash. Two relay teams return in tact including the team of Mady Smith, Laabs, Schmeling, and Crawford in the distance medley, and the 4x100 team of Rachel Rumelhart, Schmeling, Smith, and Fuller.

In addition to the eight returning qualifiers, thirty one other girls are on the team including freshman Alyson Embleton, Audrey Stowe, Charlotte Colling, Emma Vogl, Isabelle Policky, Jenna Andersen, Kylie Young, Mady Kelsey, Olivia Van Meter, Reese Coffman, Rylee Sloss, Sophie Danker, and Kalli Kinney. Sophomores include Emily McCann, Hailey Kinz, Jacqueline Trujillo, Jenna Stringer, Keely Vasey, Kendra Campbell, Kennedy Young, Mackenzie Reinhart, Regan Rumelhart, and Taylor Lemke. Juniors are Aubrey Chemelar, Cassie Landry, Chelsea Larsen, Malena Rumelhart, Samantha Sloss, and Sierra O'Brien. Seniors include Hailey Bates and Sabrina Ure.

"We should able to compete for first or second in every event (at the WCAC meet), and have a good chance at winning conference," Shawgo said. He is assisted by Lyndsey Noe and Mark McDermott. The Chargers will run on the local oval in meets scheduled for April 5, 12 and 26. A complete schedule can be found on the school website at "AC/GC Activities Calendar."
