Boys' Track Finishes 7th at I-35; Nelson, Billheimer Set Records

After Monday's boys' track meet at Jefferson was cancelled, Charger coach Tyler Mosbach added a last second meet last night at Interstate 35 High School for his team. As a team, the Chargers finished in seventh place in the twelve team meet with 33 points. Gilbert won the team title with 153 points.

Noah Nelson paced the Chargers with a new meet record (and personal record) in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:41.36. That is also an ACGC record for that event. His was the only event in which the Chargers finished first or second. Clay Billheimer picked up two thirds with a time of :54.31 in the 400 meter dash (a personal record and new ACGC record) and a time of 4:49.29 in the 1600 meter run.

Mosbach offered these comments after the meet: "After getting into the I-35 invite late, there were going to be some things that didn't go well. That is understandable and forgivable. What makes this meet a little disappointing was not the mistakes, but the attitude and focus we brought to it. We have talked all year about the desire to compete, but I did not feel that we had it on this night. Call it a midseason slump, or just a bad night, but we need to do better mentally in the future. The night was not all bad, as we had some individual efforts that stood out, including Noah Nelson with an ACGC and meet record in the 1600. Clay Billheimer also posted the fastest 400 time in the two years of ACGC history."

Both girls' and boys' teams will travel to to Stuart on Thursday for a meet hosted by West Central Valley.
