Charger Girls Fare Well at Nevada Track Meet

Charger girls' track coach Colin Shawgo had an opportunity to take his "cinderwomen" to his hometown yesterday and participate in the Nevada Girls' Invitational. His charges did not disappoint, as they competed well against larger schools and finished fourth out of nine schools with 103.5 points, only six points out of second place. North Polk won the event with 145 points.

Several Chargers claimed first place medals, including Mady McDermott took golds in both the shot and discus, Sara Schmeling who won the long jump, and Kate Crawford who took the 3000 meter run. Crawford also picked up up a silver in the 1500 meter run.

Shawgo was happy with his team's efforts. " We used tonight as a tune up for our state qualifying meet at Van Meter this Thursday. Once again we had some pretty good performances from the girls, and I think that it showed that they are primed and ready to go. For a meet that had a lot of bigger schools, we stayed tough and finished right with them in the team scoring."

The team will participate in the state qualifier at Van Meter on Thursday, with the first events to begin at 4 PM.
