Charger Girls Win by Ten Run Rule in Second Consecutive Game, Top WCV 12-2

For the second consecutive game the ACGC softball team ended a game early by the ten run rule, as the Chargers rolled over West Central Valley last night by a 12-2 margin in six innings. This is something that has not happened in consecutive games since 2009 for any ACGC, A-C, or Guthrie Center softball team.

Also for the second consecutive game, the Chargers started out slowly, giving up two unearned runs in the first inning largely due to two fielding errors. In the Charger first at bat the home team scored four runs to take a lead they would never relinquish. Three hits, including a double by Genevieve Hoover that drove in two runs, a walk and a WCV error allowed the first four batters to score for ACGC. Mikayla Hoing nearly had an inside the park home run, but was called out at the plate after a perfect relay from right field by WCV.

The Chargers added a run in the second inning and four in the third to take a commanding 9-2 lead. Two more runs in the fourth inning made the score 11-2, setting the stage for the Chargers to end the game early. In the sixth inning, a misplayed ball by the Wildcat right fielder allowed batter Genevieve Hoover to get to third base. After a walk issued to Jadeyn Carrick, a base hit to left field by Hoing scored Hoover and ended the game by the ten run rule at 12-2. The Chargers were aided throughout the game by nine WCV errors.

The bats were busy for the Chargers, as they pounded out nine hits on the day. Savana Fuller, Carrick, and Hoing each had two hits. ACGC managed four extra base hits, with Sierra O'Brien, "G" Hoover, and Carrick all hitting doubles and Hoing coming up with her triple.

Freshman pitcher Jorja Hoover went the distance for the Chargers, giving up just three hits, while striking out six and issuing five bases on ball. She did not give up an earned run.

The win gives ACGC a 2-0 record on the season and a 1-0 mark in the WCAC. The Chargers will travel to Woodward on Thursday to face the Woodward-Granger Hawks in a game scheduled for 7 PM. A junior varsity game will be played at 5:30.
