Charger SB Loses First Game; Play Madrid in Doubleheader Here Tonight

The ACGC softball team dropped its first contest of the season as non-conference opponent West Harrison topped the Chargers 6-4 last night on the Charger home field. After three consecutive wins, the Charger bats were quieter as the team mustered seven hits, five below the season average.

The Hawkeyes opened the game with one unearned run in their first at bat. In the Chargers' half of the inning Savana Fuller hit her second home run of the season--a solo shot to left field-- to knot the score at one piece.

West Harrison retook the lead in the third inning with two scores, while ACGC picked up one run in their half of the inning when Maddi Kelsey's sacrifice fly scored Jorja Hoover from third base.

The Chargers took the lead in the fourth inning, 4-3, as Jayden Carrick singled, Makayla Hoing reached base on an error, Madison Berger advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt, and Reese Coffman hit a single to left.

West Harrison responded with three runs in the fifth inning to make the score 6-4. The Chargers got runners in scoring position in both the fifth and seventh innings, but both were left stranded. For the game, ACGC stranded eight runners. Twelve of the Charger at bats were infield pop ups or outfield fly balls, generally considered the "easy out."

Sierra O'Brien led the Charger hitting, going two for four on the day, including a double in the seventh inning. That was the only ACGC extra base hit, other than Fuller's home run.

Savana Fuller and Jorga Hoover shared pitching duties, with Fuller going four and a third innings, and Hoover pitching the last two and a third innings. Fuller gave up nine of the ten Hawkeye hits, surrendered all six runs, and stuck out two batters. Hoover gave up one hit, walked two and struck out two.

Despite the loss, the Chargers remain 2-0 in conference play, with an opportunity to add two more conference wins tonight when they host Madrid in a twin bill. The first game will begin at 5:30.
