Charger Softball Scores Enough to Win Most Games, But Fall to Panorama, 17-12

After building a 10-2 lead through an inning and a half and getting eight hits in the process, the Charger softball team saw both its hitting and its fielding go south as it fell to rival Panorama 18-12 last night on the Panthers' home field. The loss was the fourth consecutive for the Chargers, leaving its season record at 3-4 heading into tonight's home game with Woodward-Granger.

ACGC opened the game with a four run first inning based on solid hitting and a leaky Panther defense. Savana Fuller, Genevieve "G" Hoover, Sierra O'Brien, and Makayla Hoing all hit safely during the inning. Coupled with two Panorama errors, ACGC was off to a 4-0 start. The Charger continued its offensive attack in the second inning, scoring six runs on four hits and three walks surrendered by Panorama pitching. Jayden Carrick, Mady Kelsey, "G", and Jorja Hoover led the attack with base hits in the inning.

But a 10-2 lead wasn't safe, as the Panthers scored three, four and five runs respectively over the next three innings to take a 14-10 lead they would never relinquish. A pitching change by Panorama in the third inning quieted the Charger bats and the Panthers took control of the game.

Three Chargers had two hits apiece, with Mady Kelsey, "G", MaKayla Hoing and Jorja Hoover each reaching safely twice. Fuller, Carrick, and Sierra O'Brien each had one hit.

Fuller and Jorga Hoover shared the pitching duties for ACGC, as Fuller started in the circle, was replaced by Hoover in the third and retuned in the fourth to completed the game. Fuller gave up 13 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 7. Hoover surrendered 4 runs on 3 hits, walked 2 and did not strike out a batter.

The Chargers have little time to lick their wounds, as they return to to action tonight. Woodward-Granger and the Chargers will square off at approximately 7 PM on the home field.
