Softball Teams Blanked Twice at Earlham by 12-0 Scores

The ACGC softball team suffered its worst defeats of the season on Thursday, dropping both ends of a doubleheader at Earlham by identical 12-0 scores. The Cardinals jumped on the Chargers early in game one, as they managed to score seven runs in the first inning and added three more in the second. The game was called at the end of the fourth inning as Earlham scored two more runs to end the game by the twelve run rule.

The Chargers threatened to score in the third inning when Jayden Carrick reached third base after hitting a single, advancing to second on Mady Kelsey's single and reaching third when Genevieve Hover reached safely on a fielder's choice. That is as close as ACGC came to scoring in either game.

Kelsey went two for two for the Chargers, with Carrick and MaKayla Hoing each getting one hit. Savana Fuller went the distance in the pitcher's circle, giving up ten hits and eight earned runs. She walked four Cardinal batters and struck out two.

Earlham duplicated the score in the second game, handing the Chargers their second 12-0 defeat of the day. Mady Kelsey had the only base hit for ACGC--a single in the fourth inning. Genevieve Hoover was the only other ACGC baserunner, as she was hit by a pitch in the second inning. Earlham scored six runs in both the second and fourth innings, with the game being called after four innings by the twelve run rule. Jorga Hoover did the pitching for ACGC, giving up eleven hits and ten earned runs, while striking out two and walking five.

The losses put the season record at 4-6, 3-5 in conference play. The team will step out of the conference today when Exira-Elkhorn-Kimballton comes to town for a JV/Varsity doubleheader. The junior varsity game is scheduled for 11 AM, with the varsity game to follow.
