Charger Softball Falls Short vs. CRB, 9-6; Host Eight Team Tourney Tomorrow
On a pleasant evening for a softball game, the ACGC softball team was on the unpleasant end of the final score, as CRB bested the Chargers by a 9-6 score.
After a scoreless first two innings, the Crusaders plated four runs in the third inning. A hit batter, two doubles, a bunt base hit, and a Charger error all contributed to the four run inning for CRB.
In the Charger half of the fourth inning ACGC managed to knot the score at 4-4. After Sierra O'Brien walked with one out, Genevieve "G" Hoover and MaKayla Hoing both reached safely on singes to load the bases. Following a Charger strikeout, Jorja Hoover reached safely on an error, allowing O'Brien to score the first Charger run. With Kylie Young at the plate, "G" scored on a passed ball and Hoing and Jorja Hoover moved to third and second respectively. Young than hit a double into right center filed, driving in both Hoing and J. Hoover to tie the game up at four apiece.
The Crusaders scored a run in the top of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead--a lead they would not surrender the rest of the game. They added another run in the sixth to take a 6-4 lead. The Chargers responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth when Jaden Carrick reached safely on an error and was sacrificed to second on a bunt by Jorja Hoover. Kylie Young came through with another run scoring single to make the score 6-5 going into the final inning.
Three Crusader hits, a passed ball and two ACGC errors allowed the Crusaders to pad their lead to make it 9-5 going into the final ACGC at bat. With two outs Mady Kelsey hit her fourth home run of the season over the center field fence to close the gap to 9-6, but that was as close as the Chargers could get.
The Chargers had six hits for the day, with "G" and Young each having two. Savana Fuller went the distance in the circle, and had good control despite giving up ten hits. She walked only one batter and struck out seven. The Charger cause was not helped by the fact that the team committed six errors and three passed balls for the game.
The Chargers will host their own tournament tomorrow (Saturday), with the action to begin at 9 AM when ACGC will face Boyer Valley. Other teams participating are Audubon, CRB, Maple Valley-Anthan-Oto, Panorama, Underwood and West Harrison.
