Charger Girls Advance to Semi-Finals of Own Tourney With 12-2 Win Over Boyer Valley
The ACGC girls won the first game in its own invitational this morning, a 12-2 win over Boyer Valley.
After the Bulldogs scored two runs in the top of the first, the Chargers shutout the visitors the rest of the way to claim a 12-2 win by the ten run rule. ACGC advances to the semifinals and will play at 2:15 versus the winner of the Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto-Charter Oak-Ute vs. West Harrison game.
Trailing 2-0 going into its first at bat, ACGC took control of the game when they scored six runs in the inning. Makayla Hoing delivered the big blast with a grand slam home run after the Chargers had tied the score at 2-2. It was Hoing's first home run of the season and the team's eighth round tripper.
After a scoreless second inning, ACGC padded its lead with two runs in the third inning. Hoing led off the inning with a double and scored from second on an error. Reese Coffman then drove in Jayden Carrick who had reach base on an error, to make the score 8-2.
In the fifth inning the Chargers added to its lead when Carrick hit a three run home run, driving in Genevieve Hoover and Hoing. It was Carricks's second round tripper of the season.
Taking an 11-2 lead into the fifth inning, the Chargers scored one more run to complete the scoring at 12-2. With Jorja Hoover and Kylie Young on base, Mady Kelsey drove in Hoover to end the game at 12-2.
The Chargers tallied nine hits for the game, with Hoing and Savana Fuller each having two. Savana Fuller pitch a complete game, giving up two runs on two hits. She struck out five and walked none. The Charger defense was solid, as it committed just one error. Overall, this was one of the Chargers best played games.
