Charger BB Shut Out Twice at DMC, 13-0 and 9-0

The Charger baseball team traveled to Des Moines Christian last night to face one of the top teams in the WCAC. DMC is tied with Van Meter and Ogden for the league lead in the loss column at 12-2, but has one fewer wins than VM and Ogden. The Lions played like the conference leader as it shut out the Chargers in both ends of a doubleheader 13-0 and 9-0.

DMC was the visitor in the first game and wasted little time in jumping on the Chargers, scoring six runs in its first at bat on three hits, three walks and several wild pitches. The Lions added three runs in the third inning, and four more in the fifth inning to make the score 13-0 and end the game by the twelve run rule.

Owen Hansen and Noah Nelson were the only Chargers to get base hits--both singles. Will Byars started on the mound and went 2/3 of an inning before Garrett Walhovd relieved him and pitched three three innings. Ben Kingery finished the final inning and one third. The trio surrendered nine hits, walked six and struck out one batter.

The second game went the full seven innings, with the Lions scoring three runs in their first at bat on two base hits and two Charger errors. They added three runs in the second inning and a single run in the third. In ACGC's fifth inning at bat Caden Wardyn got the only Charger hit for the game, a single to left field. DMC completed the scoring for the game when they scored two runs in the fourth inning.

Quenton Spack pitched a complete game for the Chargers, as he gave up seven hits for the game, while walking two and recording three strikeouts. Only one of the nine Lion runs was earned, as the Charger defense committed seven errors for the game.

The Chargers are still looking for their second win of the season, as the losses dropped the team's record to 1-18. An opportunity presents itself on Saturday when ACGC will host 0-13 Woodward Academy in an WCAC doubleheader scheduled to begin at 3 PM.
