Volleyball Team Sweeps Van Meter, 26-24, 25-17, 25-20 on Thursday

The ACGC volleyball team continued to show that it is for real as it topped Van Meter in three sets on Thursday night. With an enthusiastic student section of about seventy five and a supportive adult crowd, the Chargers ran its season and set record to 2-0 and 6-0 respectively.

Van Meter provided solid competition for the locals, but the Chargers met the challenge to sweep the Bulldogs. ACGC took the lead from the get go in set number one, but could never really pull away with its largest lead being 14-10. Van Meter took its first lead in the set at 22-21 and increased it to 24-22 before the Chargers rallied to score the final four points to take the set 26-24.

Set two found the Chargers trailing early at 7-6, but recovered to to take the lead at 8-7 with a big block by Savana Fuller and were never really threatened after that to take the set 25-17. The final set was more competitive as the teams battled throughout with the score tied late at 20-20 before the Chargers scored the final five points to seal the win.

The Chargers registered 32 kills on the night, with Chloe Largent recording a dozen and Jadeyn Carrick nine. Olivia Laabs and Fuller had 6 and 5 kills respectively. "G" Hoover and Laabs each had 13 digs, with Largent coming up with 9. Audrey Stowe had 24 assists, while Fuller led the team in blocks with 4. A notable factor in the win was the serve success, as the team was successful on 62 of 67 serves for a 92.5% serve success. The team recorded 10 serve aces for the match, with Carrick coming up with 3.

Coach Trevor Irwin was clearly pleased with the win when he said, "It was a great win. The girls played with high intensity. We knew it was going to be a challenging match, and they rose to the occasion. Our team really works as a unit and we are moving the ball well."

The Chargers will go on the road for the first time when they travel to Anita next Tuesday, August 28 for a quadrangular with CAM, Atlantic, and East Union. The next home match is scheduled for Tuesday, September 4 when the Chargers will face Audubon and Woodward-Granger in a triangular.
