The Underwood Eagles swooped in to capture the ACGC Invitational Volleyball Tournament on Saturday and along the way to the title defeated ACGC not once, but twice.

In the opening match of pool play, a tall and talented Eagle squad topped the Chargers 22-20 and 21-12 and then did did it again in the championship match, 21-14 and 21-18 to claim the crown.

The Chargers hung tough in the first set of the pool play match, and in the second set of the finals match, but were unable to come up with any set wins versus the long and hard hitting Eagles.

Sandwiched between the losses to Underwood were three consecutive wins for the Chargers, as they defeated CRB 28-30, 21-12 and 21-18; Glidden-Ralston 21-8, 20-22, and 15-4; and Audubon 21-9 and 21-15.

The first Underwood match found the Chargers pushing the Eagles to the limit in set one, but losing convincingly in the second. Statistically ACGC had a good service percentage with a 94% efficiency. Olivia Laabs went 9 for 9 to pace the Chargers from behind the line. Jadeyn Carrick led in total kills with five. Audrey Stowe led in assist with 14, while Laabs came up with 9 digs. Carrick and Savana Fuller each had 4 blocks.

The marathon match with CRB produced 34 kills by the Chargers, with Chloe Largent leading with 16. Stowe was a perfect 13-13 at the service line including 4 aces where the team had a 90% efficiency rating. Stowe also led in assists with 26, while "G" Hoover had 11 digs.

It also took three sets for the Chargers to topple Glidden-Ralston. Serving remained strong, as the team came up with a 94% efficiency mark. Stowe (12-12), Carrick (10-10), and "G" (8-8) were all perfect from the line. Larget led in kills with 11, with Laabs contributing 7. Stowe had 21 assists, and Largent came up with 10 digs., followed by Hoover with 9 and Laabs with 8. Fuller had 4 blocks, all of them solos.

The final pool play match found the Chargers avenging an earlier season loss to Audubon, as it handled the Wheelers 21-9and 21-15. Serving efficiency fell off somewhat at 88%, with Carrick leading the team with success on all 8 of her serves. The trio of Carrick, Laabs, and Largent all had 5 kills. The team had a very solid kill efficiency of 44%. Stowe was tops in assists with 17.

Three Chargers were named to the all tournament team, with Carrick, Largent, and Laabs all receiving honors. The all tournament team was determined by a vote of the coaches.

Overall, the Chargers went three and two on the day which gives them an overall mark of 13-5 heading into tonight's match at Des Moines Christian. The Lions are tied for first in WCAC play at 4-0, with the Chargers close behind at 3-1 in the league. The junior varsity match is scheduled for 5 PM with the varsity match to follow.
