Charger Consistency Gets Victory Over CR-B, 65-53

The ACGC boys' basketball team put together one of its most consistent performances of the season last night when it defeated non-conference foe Coon Rapids-Bayard, 65-53, on the Charger home court.

With better than 50% shooting on two point attempts in both the first and second halves, ACGC was able to keep the Crusaders at bay throughout the game. Three point shooting was above average as well, as the locals connected on 8 of 23 for 35%. In addition, the Chargers turned the ball over just ten times, a season low.

After opening the game with a 13-7 lead after the first quarter, the Chargers never trailed throughout the game, although the 29 point performance by the Crusaders' Ben Obert prevented ACGC from making the game a rout.

Noah Sargent was the big story for the Chargers, as he had a career high 21 points, largely due to the five treys he had--four coming in the second half. Near the end of the third quarter when CRB got with six points at 44-38, Sargent hit a three ball to give the Chargers a little breathing room. To top it off he hit another three pointer to open the final frame to give ACGC a twelve point lead. Although a full quarter was left to play, those consecutive treys pretty much sealed the deal for the Chargers.

Two other Chargers came through with double figure scoring, with Bryce Littler scoring 19 and "Q" Younker netting 12. Noah Nelson came close to double figures with an 8 point performance. Younker also led the team in rebounds with 7, while Lucas Marsh dished out 6 assists. Overall shooting was 45% on 23 makes out of 51 attempts. The Chargers hit 11 of 18 free throws for 61%.

The win improves the season record to three wins and five losses, with both girls' and boys' teams seeing action tonight when they will entertain new WCAC member Interstate-35 in a doubleheader with tipoff at 6 PM.
