Charger Matmen Go 1-1 at Van Meter/ Earlham Duals; Dual Mark at 8-2

The Charger wrestling team faced one of its strongest opponents last night in Van Mater/Earlham and found itself on the short end of a 61-18 score--part of a double dual that also included East Union of Afton. The Chargers fared better in its match with East Union, defeating the Eagles, 48-18. The meet was held at Van Meter.

The three wins for ACGC in the VM/Earlham match were all by fall, as Gunnar Larsen at 126 lb, Gabe Rowley at 138, and Ben Kingery at 195 all pinned their opponents. Of the ten contested matches, all but two were won by fall. Seth Danker at 113 and Blaine Beeler at 120 both lost their matches by decision. VM/Earl won four matches by forfeit.

The match versus East Union was more to Charger fans' liking, with ACGC winning four of the six contested matches. Danker, Beeler, Rowley and Trevin Suhr were all victorious. Rowley improved his dual record to 16-5 with his two wins, while Larsen now stands at 13-2 after winning by forfeit versus East Union. Trevin Suhr recorded the fast pin of the day when he won by fall over Onxe Ibbotson of East Union in 54 seconds.

The split gives the Chargers a 8-2 dual meet record for the season. The grapplers will next see action after the break when they travel to Griswold for a four team dual event on Saturday, January 5.
