Charger Girls Drop 49-34 Decision to West Central Valley; Regional Play Tomorrow

It is very unlikely that a basketball team will recover from a seven minute scoring drought to claim victory at game's end. So it was with the ACGC girls last night in their 49-34 loss to West Central Valley on the Charger hardcourt.

Actually, the Chargers experienced several lengthy droughts last night. With ACGC leading 5-3 after a trey by Lauren Embleton and a duece from Jadeyn Carrick to open the game, the Chargers did not score again for nearly four and a half minutes. Still, the team trailed by only a 10-7 margin at quarters' end.

The game got away from the Chargers when they failed to score in the first seven minutes and seven seconds of the second quarter and found themselves trailing 25-11 by halftime. Chloe Largent broke the ice with two late quarter field goals. But the damage was done and ACGC never threatened the Wildcats thereafter.

West Central Valley increased its lead to twenty at 40-20 by the end of the third stanza, outscoring the Chargers 15-9. The local girls outscored the visitors 14-9 in the final frame, but the outcome had long since been determined.

The Charger had sixty three offensive possessions during the game and scored on sixteen of those possessions. That means ACGC scored on just over 25% of its possessions.

Jadeyn Carrick led the Charger scoring with 11 points. Savana Fuller was next with 6 and hauled down 9 rebounds. Carrick led the team in assists with 3, and Largent blocked four shots. No player had more than 2 assists. The team shot just under 33% from the floor on 15 makes out of 46 attemtps, made 2 of 15 three pointers, and 2 of 6 free throws.

The loss was the fourth in a row for the Chargers and their sixth out of the last seven games, with the season record now standing at 9-12. Next up is the first round of the regional tournament--a clash with Southwest Vally of Corning, a team which the Chargers defeated, 71-65, on January 21. The game will be played in Corning tomorrow night at 7 PM.
