Beeler, Benson Advance to Quarterfinals; Larsen Wins in Consolation Round


All three of the Charger wrestlers who qualified for the state meet currently being held in Des Moines are still alive after the first day of competition at Wells Fargo Arena.

Blaine Beeler at 120 lb won over Mitchell Moore of Wapello by fall in 3:07 to advance to the quarterfinal round. Teammate, 138 pounder Easton Benson, won his first match by decision, 5-3, over Nate Monahan of Woodbury Central . Gunnar Larsen lost a heartbreaker by a 1-0 decision to Nolan Noonan of Cascade, but the 132 pounder came back to win in the first consolation round with a 7-3 decision over Nathan Thompson of East Sac County.

All three will compete tomorrow (Friday) morning beginning at 9 am according to the Iowa High School Athletic Association website. Beeler will face Daniel Kimball of Don Bosco, while Benson will go up against Cobe Siebrecht of Alta . Larsen's opponent in the next consolation round will not be determined until tomorrow.
