Beeler, Benson Shoot for Third Place at State Wrestling; Larsen Out After Second Loss
Two Charger wrestlers are sill in contention for third place finishes at the state wrestling tournament after the class 1A action this morning. Seniors Blaine Beeler and Easton Benson will both continue wrestling tonight in the third round of the consolation bracket, while sophomore Gunnar Larsen was defeated in the second round of the consolation bracket.
Beeler (120 lb) lost in the quarterfinal round when he was pinned by Daniel Kimball of Don Bosco in 2:44. Moving into the consolation bracket, Beeler won over Connor Atkisson of Tri-Center by a 3-2 decision.
Benson's (138 lb) fate was similar to Beeler's, in that he lost by fall to Cobe Siebrecht of Alta-Aurelia in 2:23 and then picked up a win in the the consolation bracket when he took an 11-7 decision over Brody Hawtrey of North Central.
Larsen (132 lb) started the day with a 7-3 win over Nathan Thomsen of East Sac County before losing to Joshua Tibbits of Colfax-Mingo by fall in 1:07. As that was Larsen's second loss, he has been eliminated from further competition.
Beeler will wrestle again tonight at 7:30 when he faces Cauy Fitch of Colfax Mingo in third round consolation action. Benson will also be on the mat tonight when he takes on Caiden Jones of Lake Mills. Both will have to win three more matches to place third at the meet. Go Chargers!
