The ACGC track teams made a strong showing at the WCAC meet last night in Panora, as both squads finished third among the twelve teams in their respective meets. The Charger girls finished with 99.5 points which garnered the third spot behind Panorama's score of 159 and Van Meter's 110 points. The local boys tallied 69 points while Madrid placed first with 148 and Des Moines Christian was runner-up with 111. The competition was keen, as many state ranked athletes participated in last night's event.

The Charger girls claimed four first places and an equal number of second place finishes. Kate Crawford was involved in three of the golds and one of the silvers captured by the Chargers. She won both the 1500 and 3000 meter runs in times of 5:03.29 and 10:37.13 respectively and also anchored the 1600 meter medley relay to a first place finish with a total time of 4:28.89. Reagan Rumelhart and Savana Fuller each ran a 200 leg, with Audrey Stowe running the 400 leg and Crawford finishing with an 800. The other gold medal was won by Madison McDermott who won the discus with a throw of 121'1".

McDermott nearly won a second gold, as she heaved the shot 36'6.5, which was just one inch short of first place. Chloe Largent turned in her best performance of the season, as she finished second in the high jump with a jump of five feet even. Fuller ran well in the 100 meters, taking second place with a time of 13.31. Crawford finished as the runner-up in the 800 meters with a time of 2:26.67.

The boys were unable to capture any gold yesterday but did place second in three events. Dylan Soper took the silver in the 100 meters in 11.53 seconds, while Noah Nelson placed second in the 3200 meter run with a time of 9:58.93. The 3200 meter relay team consisting of Charlie Crawford, Zach Moon, Nelson and Clay Billheimer also finished second in a time of 8:34.79.

The final regular season meets will be this coming Monday, May 6 when the girls travel to Nevada and the boys will host a meet on the Charger oval. The boys meet will begin at 5 PM.
