Charger Softball Tops Audubon in Five, 12-1

A potent offense, solid defense, and strong pitching were on display yesterday for the ACGC softball team as the Chargers dominated Audubon in a 12-1 win in the season opener for both teams. The Chargers pounded out twelve hits, played errorless ball, and got a two hit performance from pitcher Savana Fuller. The game ended after five innings by the ten run rule.

After both teams failed to score in the first inning, Audubon scored the initial run of the game in inning number two when Fuller surrendered her only walk to Wheeler left fielder Leah Subbert who eventually scored on a ground out from third base. But that was it for the Wheelers.

The Charger bats came alive in the second inning when they exploded for eight runs on seven hits. After Madelyn Kelsey singled, Charger left fielder Kylie Young hit her first career home run to give ACGC a 2-1 lead. The big inning continued as Reese Coffman, Jorja Hoover, Savana Fuller, "G" Hoover, Kelsey again (!), and Jadeyn Carrick all had hits to contribute to the big inning. At that point the game was essentially over.

Another big inning in the third frame gave the Chargers a 12-1 lead, nearly ending the game by the twelve run rule. Consecutive singles by Sierra O'Brien, Fuller, and "G" accounted for the four RBI's in the inning.

Four Chargers had two hits on the game, including the Hoover sisters, Fuller, and Kelsey. But the entire batting order hit solidly in contributing to the big win.

Fuller walked two Wheeler batters, struck out four, and gave up an infield hit and single to center field.

All in all it was a good performance for the locals and a good way to start out the season.

The next scheduled game is tonight on the home filed versus conference opponent Madrid. That is, if the weather cooperates. The JV game is scheduled for 5:30 with the varsity game to follow. Go Chargers!
