Van Meter BB Protects WCAC Lead, Takes Two From Chargers

League leading Van Meter (14-1 in WCAC) made certain it protected its one game lead in the conference race as it topped the Chargers in a doubleheader last night by scores of 11-1 and 8-0 on the ACGC home field. The Bulldogs conference record stands at 14-1 with both Madrid and Woodward-Granger close behind at 14-3.

The Bulldogs jumped off to a 5-0 lead in its first at bat and added six more runs in the third to take an 11-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. The Chargers needed two scores to avoid the ten run mercy rule. After Will Byars got on base by an error, Noah Nelson delivered a hit to drive in Byars to make it 11-1. Bryce Littler also got a hit in the fifth, but the Chargers could not muster the additional run to avoid the shortened game. The hits by Nelson and Littler were the only hits for the Chargers in game one.

Those two Charger hits in game one were the only two for the night, as Van Meter pitcher Brett Berg tossed a no hitter in game two to lead the Bulldogs to an 8-0 win. Berg struck out eleven batters along the way and did not walk a batter.

Next up for the boys is a JV/Varsity doubleheader at Panorama on Monday with the JV game scheduled for 5 PM. Go Chargers!
