Rain Washes Out Girls, Shortens Boys' Game at Woodward-Granger; Girls' Game to Be Made Up To

Spotty showers, along with lightening, picked the wrong spot last night, as the dynamic duo did in the Charger softball and baseball teams at Woodward-Granger. The girls' game was washed out before it ever started and the boys got in five innings in a rain shortened 5-1 loss to the Hawks.

The boys' game started well for ACGC, when Newell Rogers tallied the first run of the game. Rogers got on by an error and advanced to second on an error as well. He eventually scored on a wild pitch to put the Chargers up 1-0.

That lone run was all the Chargers could muster, although they had two base runners in both the second and third innings. All four runners were stranded. Charlie Crawford and Miles Kading both walked with one out in the Chargers' second at bat, but Hawk pitcher Caden Easter bore down and struck out the next two batters.

Avery Wheatley got the only base hit for ACGC when he singled with two outs in the third inning. Ben Kingery was then hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second, but the threat ended when Easter again recored a strike out.

Mike Ure pitched all of the shortened game, giving up three hits over the four innings he pitched. The Charger senior walked three Hawks and did not record a strikeout.

"Mike was good at being in the zone and giving up weak contact," coach Taylor Morris commented. "He ran into a tough inning of his own doing, but got out with minimal damage."

Morris also mentioned that the Chargers are showing improvement. "We are playing better baseball and I think we are playing well at the right time of the season. We really need to carry this over for the next three to four games."

The Chargers softball games will be made up today in Woodward, with the varsity game to be played first at 5:30 PM, and the JV game to follow. The boys will next see action on Friday at Orient-Macksburg. This will be a varsity game only beginning at 5 PM. Go Chargers!
