WCAC Summer Sports Honors Go To Five Chargers

The West Central Activities Conference has released its all-conference selections for softball and baseball for the seasons completed in July.

Charger softball honors go to Sierra O'Brien, Genevieve Hoover, and Madalyn Kelsey. O'Brien was named to the second team while Hoover and Kelsey both received honorable mention. The trio led ACGC in hitting, with Kelsey hitting for a .396 average, with Hoover next at .373 and O'Brien at .344. Hoover led the WCAC in number of times hit by pitch with six, while O'Brien tied for fourth in the conference with twenty bases on balls. Kelsey's four home runs tied her for fourth in conference play. O'Brien and Hoover have graduated, while Kelsey has two more seasons with the Chargers.

Ogden was the lone WCAC qualifier in the state tournament played in Fort Dodge in July. The Bulldogs lost in the first round, but bounced back to defeat Central Springs, 12-3, in a consolation game.

Two Charger baseball players were also recognized by the WCAC, as senior Avery Wheatley and junior Bryce Littler both received honorable mention. Wheatley led the Charger hitting with a .236 average, while Littler hit for a .216 average.

Two teams from the WCAC qualified for the state tournament, as Des Moines Christian and Van Meter both saw action at Principal Park in Des Moines. DMC lost in the semifinals, while Van Meter was crowned as state champion yesterday with a 6-0 win over North Linn.
