Charger VB Claims Griswold Title; Three Named All-Tournament
The ACGC volleyball team captured the title at the Griswold tournament yesterday, winning five out of six matches. In addition, three Chargers made the all tournament team, including Chloe Largent, Audrey Stowe, and Olivia Laabs.
In winning the championship, ACGC won five consecutive matches before losing its last match of the day. In winning those five matches the team also swept all of the sets it played. The Charger wins came against Riverside 21-12 and 21-16; Denison 21-19 and 21-16; IKM-Manning 21-12 and 21-17; Extra-EH-K 21-16 and 21-11; and host Griswold 21-18 and 21-8. The lone Charger loss was to Southwest Valley of Corning in straight sets, 21-16 and 21-17.
The trio of all tournament players performances indicate why they were so honored. Largent led the Chargers in kills in each match, with Stowe tops in assists and Laabs in digs. Largent had a total of 71 kills for the day, while Stowe's assist total was 107 and Laab's assist numbers were at 58. In the Griswold match, Reese Coffman tied Laabs for most digs with 10.
Kylie Young had the most successful serves with 53 and Alaina Bunde led the Chargers in blocks with 18. Stowe led the team in ace serves for the day with 7.
The 5-1 record of yesterday moves the season record to 11-1. The Chargers will return to conference play on Tuesday when they travel to Earlham for a match scheduled for 7 PM. Go Chargers!
