ACGC Boys Close out Home Schedule with 70-39 Win
Last night's Charger boys' win over West Central Valley was expected, so it was no surprise that ACGC won going away, 70-39. As this was the final regular season home game for the seniors, Charger coach Lance Kading started the five seniors on the roster--Eli Kading, Lucas Marsh, Clayton Wardyn, Newell Rogers, and Carter Hanson. The seniors responded by taking a 16-2 lead after the first quarter which included four successful three pointers.
The Wildcats have struggled throughout the season and came into the game with three wins for the year. The Chargers, on the other hand, have had a break out season and picked up their fourteenth win last night against just four losses.
It was appropriate that on senior night that the seniors should provide most of the scoring. And they did, as three of them hit double figures. Clayton Wardyn had a career best 15 points, while Eli Kading netted 14 and Lucas Marsh tallied 11. Rogers came close to hitting double figures, finishing with 8 points.
The Chargers steadily increased their lead throughout the game, with quarter scores of 16-2, 36-14, 54-27, and finally 70-39. As dominant as ACGC was, the game was lacking very much drama.
Lucas Marsh came up with a double double as he grabbed 13 rebounds in addition to his 11 points. Eli Kading led the team in assists with 5, while brother Miles had 7 steals.
ACGC put up 75 shots on the night, making 28 for 37% accuracy. The made 21% of attempted three pointers as they hit 7 of 34 tries. At the free throw line the team made all seven of its attempts.
The boys will close the regular season with three road games at Pleasantville, Woodward-Granger, and Earlham--all during the second week of February. It is likely that the Chargers will host a game or two in the district tournament, but assignments had not been determined as of this writing.
Coach Kading's comments will be added when available.
