ACGC Boys Place First, Girls Second at Stanton Track Meet

The ACGC boys' and girls' track teams got the season underway in good fashion last Thursday at the Stanton coed meet, which was held on the Griswold track. The Charger boys won their meet while easily outscoring the other eleven teams that participated, while the girls narrowly missed taking the top spot, finishing four points behind Shenandoah, 139-135. The meet was not decided until the final event when Shenandoah edged out the Chargers in the 1600 meter relay.

The Charger girls claimed five first place finishes at the meet, led by Rylee Sloss' gold medal finishes in the 1500 and 3000 meter runs. The veteran Sloss ran the 1500 in 5:32.83 and the 3000 in 11:57.56.

Chloe Largent took the honors in the high jump when she cleared the bar at 5'2". Two girls' relay teams also came in first in their events. The 4x800 team consisting of EmmaKay McClain, Audrey Stowe, Sophie Danker, and Jorga Hoover placed first with a time of 11:09.84 which was a minute and a half better than the runner up team.

The shuttle hurdle team also took the gold, running the event in 1:16.35. Sophie Dorsey ran leadoff, with Jenna Rowley and Hayden Coffman running the second and third legs, and Saige O"Brien running the anchor.

The ACGC boys dominated the field in their meet, racking up 185 points on the day compared to runner up Shenandoah's 106. The Chargers came home with plenty of gold as they claimed the top spot in nine different everts.

Austin Kunkle took first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.05, while Charlie Crawford won the 800 in 2:12.35, and Justin Reinhart led the field in the 3200 with a time of 11:31.33.

Other individual winners included Cael Hoing in the discus with a throw of 128'9", and Clayton Wardyn who claimed the top spot in both the high jump and the long jump. Wardyn set an ACGC record in the high jump when he went over the bar at 6'2", giving him a tie for first in the event. The Charger senior also claimed a first place finish in the long jump with a leap of 20'1".

The boys finished first in three relays, including the 4x800, the shuttle hurdle, and the 1600 distance medley. The 4x800 relay won the event in 9:50.17 with Zach Moon, Kaden Thompson, Tegan Salybaugh, and Miles Kading each running a leg. The shuttle hurdle team consisting of Clayton Wardyn, Anthony Solorzano, Lance Bunde, and Cayden Jensen took first place with a time of 1:11.08. The 1600 medley team of Cayden Jensen, Reid Rumelhart, Charlie Crawford, Trevin Suhr also finished first with a time of 4:00.11.
