ACGC Cross Country Teams Both Finish Second at WCV Meet
The ACGC cross country teams both turned in solid performances on Thursday at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by West Central Valley in Redfield. Both the ACGC girls' and boys' teams finished second in their respective races.
The girls, currently ranked twelfth in class 1A, finished second to class 2A Van Meter in the five team meet, while the Charger boys (ranked second in 1A) were bested by 3A ADM by a four point margin, 40-44. Trevin Suhr continued to pace the ACGC boys and was crowned individual champion in the boys' meet.
"Our girls went out and competed hard despite tired legs from a rough week of practice," ACGC coach Colin Shawgo commented following the competition. "About halfway. through the race we were in a poor position as a team, but a massive amount of mental toughness and grit got the girls into second place and a victory over a very good Central Decatur team."
Three girls medaled for the Chargers including Ava Campbell who finished fourth in 21:45, Hayden Coffman (7th, 7:15) and Adalyn Benson (13th, 23:12). Others figuring in the five girl team score included Katelyn Schafer (18th, 24:11) and Jayla Hoover (20th, 24:23).
Also running for the Chargers were Paige Van Meter (21st, 24:42), Kiersten Knobbe (22nd, 25:06), and Emmarae Ellis (26:42).
Trevin Suhr took the individual title in the boys' meet when he bested sixty four other competitors with a time of 16:42 over the 5K course. Andrew Mahaffey finished seventh with a time of 18:04 and Justin Reinhart placed ninth in 18:08. Noah Kading (13th, 18:21) and and Bo Arrasmith (14th,18:27) also figured in the team score for ACGC.
All five of the above mentioned Charger runners won medals for their performances in addition to Kaden Thompson (15th, 18:27.). Lance Bunde (19th, 18:57) was the seventh ACGC runner vying for a top five spot among the ACGC runners.
"The boys were also dealing with some tired legs, but battled valiantly against eighth ranked 3A ADM and 1A fifth ranked Central Decatur," Shawgo said of the boys' performance. "By the time the dust had settled the boys finished second behind ADM with five medalists and the individual champion."
