ACGC Volleyball Finishes Second at CAM Tourney

The ACGC volleyball team finished second at the CAM (Anita) tournament yesterday, winning four consecutive matches before falling to Underwood in the finals.

The Chargers won three straight in pool play with wins over CAM (17-21,21-16, 21-18), Ar-We-Va (21-7 and 21-18) and Orient-Mcksburg (21-4 and 21-5). They picked up a fourth win in the semifinals with a 25-16 and 25-23 win over Griswold. The Griswold win was the seventh consecutive for the team, dating back to a win over Baxter on September 21.

The title game found the Chargers going up its nemesis--the Underwood Eagles. The Chargers had lost eight consecutive matches to the Eagles dating back to the fall of 2018. And now it is nine consecutive losses as the Eagles bested the Charger 25-14, 25-14 for the title.

Three Chargers were named to the all tournament team, including senior Chloe Largent, junior Mollie Gettler, and sophomore Mercedez Richter.

With the season record now standing at 15 wins and 9 losses, the regular season will close out with WCAC matches on Tuesday with Ogden at home and two matches versus Pleasantville and West Central Valley at WCV on Thursday.

"We played well through the first four matches," Charger coach Jen Policky commented. We made way too many errors on our side of the net in the championship game. We must go backto practice and the games this week to tighten up a few things before we get to October twentieth."

Policky's reference to October 20 has to do with the opening round of regional play. The Chargers have learned who their first round regional opponent will be. ACGC will face Nodaway Valley in Guthrie Center on Wednesday, October 20. ACGC defeated NV at the Charger Invitational in September, 2-0, with set scores of 21-12 and 21-13.
