ACGC Volleyball Wins Ninth of Ten Matches; Defeats Ogden, 3-0
Seven ACGC seniors were recognized on senior night for the ACGC volleyball team, as they wind down their years with the program. The team came through with a three set win over Ogden to improve its record to 17-9 for the season, including a 4-3 mark in conference play.
Alyssa Beyers, Alaina Bunde, Anita Chamberlain, Mya DeFruscio, Chloe Largent, Megan Lemke, and Morgan Lemke were accompanied by their parents in pregame introductions of the seven seniors.
The Chargers responded with a first set 25-6 rout of the outmanned Bulldogs. Led by three early kills by Largent and two ace serves by Molly Gettler, the home team raced to an early 12-1 lead from which the visitors never recovered. Late in the set Megan Lemke added two successive aces to increase the lead to 22-4.
The Bulldogs recovered somewhat from its first set loss as they managed to hit double figures in successive 25-14 set losses. The Chargers were pretty loose, as there were plenty of smiles and a great deal of confidence among the players.
With the Chargers trailing 6-5 in the early going, Jenna Rowley had a strong service as the team scored four consecutive points that included three aces by Rowley. Largent then recored four ace serves during her serve to increase the lead to 13-3. Jordan Lemke's service also produced four points, as did the service of Mercedez Richter. Following Richter's serve the Chargers' lead had increased to 23-11.
The final set remained close through three fourths of the set which found the Chargers leading by a single point at 14-13. After that ACGC scored ten out of eleven points to increase its lead to 24-14, and virtually clinch the match. The final point was tallied on a net serve by the Bulldogs.
The Chargers will complete the regular season with a triangular at West Central Valley tomorrow (Thursday) and a tournament at Woodward-Granger on Saturday. The first regional tournament match will be on Wednesday, October 20 when ACGC will host Nodaway Valley.
