Atlantic Wins Big Over ACGC Baseball, 18-1

The ACGC baseball team stepped away from conference play last night to face Atlantic of the Hawkeye Ten Conference, and found itself on the short end of an 18-1 score. The game was ended by the twelve run rule after the sixth inning. Although the Trojans have a losing record at 9-11 for the season, it was still a tall task for the Chargers to take on a school from a highly competitive 3A conference.

Charger mentor Taylor Morris probably said it best with these words following the game, "This game is one we want to forget about and move on to tomorrow's game against Audubon. There's a simple answer for this game. When it rains it pours, and this was a long night for us tonight. We will focus on being better tomorrow."

ACGC fans had little to cheer about, as the Chargers were able to come up with only one hit--Newell Rogers' third inning single to left field. Rogers' hit produced the only Charger run, as Reid Rumelhart came around to score from second base after getting hit by pitch and stealing second base. That run gave the home team a 1-0 short lived lead, as the Trojans responded with a seven run fourth inning and added eleven more runs over the following two innings.

Rogers started on the mound for ACGC and managed to shut out the Trojans through three innings before they sent thirteen batters to the plate in the fourth inning and scored their first seven runs. Lucas Marsh threw the fifth inning and Cayden Jensen, Rumelhart and Miles Kading all pitched in the final inning.

The Chargers' season record now stands at 10-18. The IHSAA has released the pairings for district tournament play. The Chargers will host South Central Calhoun on Saturday, July 10 at 7 PM.
