Charger Girls Win at CR-B, 46-34
The ACGC girls' basketball team improved its season record to five wins against three losses with a 46-34 win over CR-B on Monday in a game played in Coon Rapids. The game didn't start out the way the Chargers wanted as the Crusaders took a 13 -7 lead after the first quarter. The Chargers connected on just two shots in the opening eight minutes.
Although its shooting percentage didn't improve in the second quarter, the Chargers managed to get off 17 shots and scored 15 points to tie the game at 22 apiece by halftime. The ACGC defense allowed just four shots by the hosts in the quarter, but also struggled to score as it connected on 5 of 17 shots. Reagan Carney netted 8 points in the quarter, while Saige O'Brien hit a three pointer and Alaina Bunde added a basket.
The third quarter belonged to ACGC, as it outscored the Crusaders14-6 to take a 36-28 lead. The Charger defense allowed just 6 shot attempts while offensively connecting on 6 of its 11 tries. Carney came up with six points in the quarter.
The Charger defense dominated in the fourth quarter as well, as it held CR-B to six points and scored ten of its own. Sophie Dorsey nailed two treys in the quarter.
Unofficial statistics show Carney leading the scoring for ACGC with 16 points, while Dorsey and Alaina Bunde also scoring in double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively. It was not a great shooting night for the Chargers as they shot 30% from the field and 8 of 14 from the charity stripe. A significant stat shows that that the Chargers attempted 56 shots while the Crusaders only had 33 tries.
Following the game Charger coach gave his take on the win. "I thought our defense whowed out in the second through the fourth quarter. We played great team defense and rebounded the ball well. Offensively we did a good a good job of getting the ball into the high post.
"I was happy with how we did multiple offenses and got shots any time we wanted. I liked out fight and effort even when we got down early. It was good to see to see us be able to climb out of a hole and pull off a win."
