Charger Track Teams Win Top Honors at Different Sites

A rarity occurred on Thursday when both ACGC track teams captured team titles in their respective meets. The Charger girls won their own meet on the Charger track, while the boys duplicated the feat at the Manson-Northwest Webster meet. The boys win was their fourth title of the season, while the girls picked up their first team vctory.

While having to cope with a malfunction in the timing system that caused some delay, the ACGC girls piled up 123 points to top the twelve team field. Audubon finished second with 104 points. The Chargers claimed six first place finishes (worth 60 points) which accounted for over half of the team's total points. Numerous finishes in places two through eight enabled ACGC to keep its challengers at bay and claim the team title.

Charger standout distance runner Rylee Sloss took the gold in both the 1500 meter and 3000 meter runs in times of 5:33.80 and 11:33.03 respectively. Jorga Hoover won the 400 meters in 1:07.18, while Emma Kay McClain took top honors in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:14.31. The 4x800 relay team of McClain, Sophie Danker, Mia Ocheltree, and Hoover broke the tape with a time of 11:06.09 and Chloe Largent was the winner in the high jump with a height of 5'4".

Meanwhile, sixty five miles to the north at Manson the Charger boys were competing with teams they don't usually see and were also enjoying a successful night when they came out on top of a twelve meet. The ACGC team scored 134 points to runner up St. Edmond's 99. The boys came up with five first place finishes in their meet.

The Charger boys have outstanding distance runners of their own, and they claimed all three distance events. Trevin Suhr placed first in both the 800 and 1600 meter runs with times of 2:04.62 and 4:58.21 respectively, with Andrew Mahaffey taking the honors in the 3200 in 11:01.01.

The 1600 medley relay consisting of Cayden Jensen, Clayton Wardyn, Austin Kunkle, and Suhr took the top spot with a time of 3:54.79, while Cael Hoing won the discus throw with a toss of 133 feet even.
