Chargers' Baseball Loses Regular Season Finale, 6-2

Updated: Jul 10, 2021

In their final tuneup for the district tournament, the ACGC Chargers lost to a good hitting Hinton team last Thursday night, 6-2, on the Charger diamond. The Blackhawks pounded out twelve hits and never trailed, as they scored four runs in their second at bat to take control of the game.

The Chargers scored a single run in the third inning when Clayton Wardyn was hit by pitch and scored following singles by Newell Rogers and Miles Kading. Both Rogers and Kading were stranded on base along with Reid Rumelhart. ACGC left a total of eleven runners on base for the game.

After Hinton scored single runs in the third and fourth innings to go up by a 6-1 score, ACGC pickup up its final run when Rogers got on by a fielder's choice, and advanced to third on an error by the Blackhawk pitcher. Kading got his second RBI of the game when he singled to score Rogers. ACGC put runners on in both the sixth and seventh innings, but that 6-2 score stood as the final.

Miles Kading was a perfect three for three at the plate (including a first inning double) for the Chargers, while Rogers, Eli Kading, and Lucas Marsh accounted for the other ACGC hits.

Three Chargers saw action on the mound, with Lance Bunde starting the game. He went four innings and gave up nine hits and the six Hinton runs. Reid Rumelhart and Clayton Wardyn pitched three innings of shutout ball to end the game.

"We played a very solid game against Hinton tonight, but they used a big inning to help propel them to victory," Coach Taylor Morris commented. "Lance Bunde made some good pitches on the outside corner of the plate that their hitters just took the other way. We tip our cap to them and their execution.

"Tomorrow is a big day of practice to finish up the prep for the postseason and now is the time for our boys to make a run. We look forward to hosting South Central Calhoun on Saturday and hope to get a good crowd."

Saturday's tournament opener that Morris referred to is scheduled to begin at 7 PM.
