Chargers Fall to Top Ranked Roland Story, 10-0

After defeating then top ranked Van Meter on June 24, the ACGC baseball team had another opportunity to raise chaos among the baseball giants when it faced current number one Roland-Story last night. But this time the task was too great, as the Norsemen won over the Chargers in five innings by a 10-0 score.

Although the score was lopsided, Chargers' coach Taylor Morris had another take on the result. "The score ended up ten to zero, but the score is not indicative of how close this game truly was. Our pitchers threw strikes and Roland Story had five or six weak ground balls that our guys were unable to make plays on in time. Unfortunately it was one of those nights that the Norsemen just seemed to find every piece of dirt and grass they could. The score of ten to zero was much closer that what it was."

Following a scoreless first inning, Roland-Story scored six and four runs respectively in innings two and three to put the game out of reach for the Chargers. The rest of the game was goose eggs for both teams.

The Chargers came up with three singles for the game. Miles Kading reached safely in the first inning. The other hits came in the third inning--the only time the visitors put a runner in scoring position. Lucas Marsh singled to start the inning, and Newell Rogers duplicated that with two outs. The threat ended when Kading grounded out pitcher to first to end the at bat.

ACGC used four pitchers during the game, with Andrew Mahaffey starting the game and Eli Kading, Tegan Slaybaugh, and Miles Kading all pitching an inning or less.

The regular season ends tonight for the Chargers when they will entertain Hinton of the War Eagle Conference. The varsity game will be preceded by a JV game which is scheduled for 5 pm.
