Danker Wins Number 100 (!) at Riverside Invitational

Updated: Dec 14, 2020

As winter made its entry Saturday with a four inch snowfall accompanied by a cold north wind, the ACGC wrestlers headed south to Oakland for the Riverside Invitational. It turned out to be a banner day for Charger senior Seth Danker, who picked up his one hundredth career win. Danker came into this season with eighty seven wins and Saturday he picked up victories ten through thirteen for this year to get to the prestigious one hundred victory mark.

Danker won four matches yesterday that included two technical falls and two pins. Both of the technical falls were shutouts, including a 15-0 decision in the title match over Brady Thompson of Logan-Magnolia that enabled Danker to hit the one hundred win mark..

As a freshman Danker won 33 matches at 106 lb and was a state qualifier. An injury plagued sophomore season resulted in a drop to 22 wins at 113 lb. He bounced back as a junior to capture 32 victories at 126 and qualified a second time for the state tourney. And now he has hit the 100 mark as a 138 pounder.

"I'm just happy to be on the mat this year," Danker said following victory number one hundred. "I want to make the most of my senior season."

Five other Chargers competed at the seventeen team tournament, with two additional grapplers finishing among the top four in their respective weight classes.

Tegan Slaybaugh finished third at 106, as he went 3-1 on the day to improve his overall record to 9-3. Slaybaugh won his first two matches before losing a close 10-8 decision in the semis. He bounced back with a convincing 10-3 decision to claim third place.

At 170 lb Christian Nolte was the third Charger to claim a place, as he finished fourth with two wins and two losses for the day. All four of his matches were decided by fall. He won his first two before losing his third and fourth matches. His season record now stands at 7-3.

Dawson Muller at 145, Cayden Jensen at 152, and Bryce Rochholz at 195 also competed but did not place.

ACGC finished eleventh in team scoring with 63 points. Logan Magnolia took top honors with 230 points, followed by Aurora, Nebraska which totaled 170.5.

"We didn't have all of our regulars on Saturday," coach Shawn Danker said regarding the meet. "I sat Cale Rowley this weekend to rest an injury and Gunnar Larsen was not able to make the trip due to contact tracing. There were many ranked individuals and teams in this tournament but three of our six wrestlers finished in the top four."
