Rowley Second; Slaybaugh, Danker Third at Tri-Center Invite

Updated: Jan 11, 2021

The competition was stiff at the Tri-Center Invitational tournament Saturday as the ACGC wrestlers finished in the middle of the pack at the fourteen team tournament. The Chargers scored 97.5 points to place seventh, while Missouri Valley and Plattview, Nebraska tied for the title with 181.5 points each.

The Chargers did not have a champion, but three of the stalwarts on the team finished in the top three in their respective weight classes. Cale Rowley, whose record now stands at 14-2, finished second at 152 lb. After drawing a bye in the first round, Rowley pinned opponents from Hinton and Treynor to advance to the title match where he lost by fall to Kaden Broer of West Monona.

The two Chargers with twenty plus wins for the season, Tegan Slaybaugh at 106 and Seth Danker at 138, both finished in third place. Slaybaugh lost a heart breaking sudden victory match in the semifinals to Riley Parkis of Kuemper Catholic, but bounced back to pin Ayden Sengmany of Treynor to claim the bronze. Slaybaugh is now 21-4 for the season.

Seth Danker lost his first match of the season when he dropped a 4-0 decision to Byrar Nadrchal of Platteview, Nebaska in the semis. In the match for third place Danker won a 12-3 major decision over Fred Veatch of Missouri Valley. Danker's record now stands at 23-1.

Folowing the meet coach Danker offered these comments: "Yesterday was a good day for the Chargers on the mat as a team. Everyone placed in their weight class. I think everyone would like to have a place or two higher, so it gives us something to keep pushing for. This tournament has some good competition for all the guys."
