"This was a very tightly contested game and Woodward-Granger was able to execute in the sixth to walk away with the win," Chargers' mentor Taylor Morris said after the game that was played on July 6. "Our guys played solid defense and Newell (Rogers) gave us a chance to win on the mound, but we struggled with runners in scoring position last night, and that was the difference in the game."
The Chargers got on the scoreboard first when they tallied a single run in the second inning. Cayden Jensen's triple was followed up by Reid Rumelhart's sacrifice fly that scored Jensen to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. He was stranded their when the next batter struck out.
Rogers went the distance on the mound for ACGC, surrendering eight hits to the Hawks. He walked three and had no strikeouts. A good performance by the team's defense backed up Newell and helped to keep the Chargers in the game. Rogers also had a double in three at bats.
Morris was looking ahead when he said, "It's a nice thing knowing that if we take care of business in our postseason game with South Central Calhoun, we get another chance at Woodward-Granger.
"Our guys are eager for the opportunity, but we need to finish the regular season strong and then focus on South Central Calhoun on Saturday."
