Kyra Babcock, High School Band Director for AC/GC Schools beams with pride as she talks about the recent competition that the marching band members participated in. Attending the Carroll Band Days Competition has been a rite of passage for our school’s band members for many years and this year was no exception. Celebrating its 60th year, the Carroll Band Days, held the last Saturday in September, brought 16 bands marching through the streets of the Iowa town and ending at the Carroll Athletic Field Stadium.
The event is sanctioned by the Iowa High School Music Association competition. Not only are the bands there to entertain for the multitude of people that come to see the parade, but they are there for a difficult competition within their school classification. Bands competed in Classes 1A, 2A, and 3A at both the high-school and middle-school levels. This year was a first time competition for our 7th and 8th graders and Junior High Director Brooke Burr was very proud of their performance and bringing home a 2nd place win.
The AC/GC High School Marching Band were honored with a 2nd place trophy in Class 2A. Our own Margaret Maas was awarded “Best Overall Drum Major” for the second year in a row out of the 16 bands competing.
Congratulations to all of the hardworking members of both of our marching bands bringing home a 2nd place finish. Your hard work has paid off in a big way!
