Charger Golfers See Improvement at Van Meter Triangular

April 26, 2018

The Lakeview Golf Course near Winterset was the latest site for the ACGC golf teams, as the Chargers competed n a triangular with Ogden and host Van Meter on Tuesday.   Both local teams finished third, with Van Meter winning both the girls' and boys' meets. The Bulldogs' top four female golfers shot a 184, with Ogden shooting a 217 and the Chargers a 289.  The Van Meter boys score was 170, with Ogden coming in with a score of 177, and the Chargers with a 215.

Kena Baier led ACGC with a 50 over the nine holes played, a score which is her best of the season.  Her score was also the fourth best among the girl competitors.  Other scores for the Chargers included Jessica Stringer's 78, Morgan Sheeder's 80 and an 81 by Sally Jo Geckler.

Charger coach Lori McGivney was pleased with the progress showed by her linksters.  "I was very proud of the improvement I'm seeing.  Kena shot a 50, which is a personal best.  We're going to see some 40's soon.  She's really paying well.  The others continue to make progress.  I'm seeing some improvement in technique and some great shots.  We just meed to be more consitent and stay positive and hit with confidence."

On the boys side Spencer Grove led with a round of 49, with Seth Danker shooting a 52, Eli Kading a 56, Austin Hall a 58 and Casson Benson a 61.  McGivney saw some good things from the boys as well.  "The boys' had a good showing, with four scores under 56.  Again. I'm seeing improvement is technique and course management.  I think we'll continue to see scores come down as they work hard to make necessary changes in their game.  As the weather warms up we're also able to practice longer and get in the repetitions that are crucial to our success."

Next up for the Chargers is a girl/ boy invitational at Woodward today and a boys only meet at CRB on Saturday.
