Charger Girls Second, Boys Third in Gonzales-Parrish Invite; Billheimer Breaks Meet Records in 800,1600 Meter Runs

April 27, 2018

Last night's Gonzales-Parrish Invitational track meet was a good one for the Charger teams, as the girls claimed third place with 144 points and the boys claimed second with 151 points.  IKM- Manning swept both meets with 156 points in the girls' meet and 181 in the boys' event.

First and second places finishes abounded for the local teams, with the girls garnering eleven golds and silvers and the boys nine.  Firsts for the girls went to Sara Schmeling in the long jump with a leap of 16'1.5"; Emma Swanson in the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:23.21; Mady Smith in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.53; and the 1600 medley relay (Mady Smith, Savana Fuller, Reagen Rumelhart, and Emma Swanson) which ran it in 4:46.41.

Clay Billheimer was a double winner for the boys as he took golds in the both the 800 and 1600 meter runs.  He won the former in 2:06.9,  and the latter in a time of 4:39.23, establishing meet records in both.  Also capturing first places were Caden Wardyn in the long jump with a leap of 18'11.5"; Dylan Soper in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.76; Noah Nelson in the 3200 meter run in 10:14.20; and the 400 hurdle relay (Cole Boyer, Gabe Rowley, Caden Wardyn, and Grady Laabs) in a time of 1:04.32.

Second place finishers for the girls were Mady Kelsey in the shot put, Lauryn Embleton in the 800 meters and the 300 meters, Swanson in the 1500 meters, and the 400, 800, and 3200 meter relay teams.

For the boys, Quenton Younker placed second in the shot put, with Noah Nelson finishing second in the 800 meters.  The 1600 meter relay team also finished in second place.

Boys' coach Tyler Mosbach was pretty pleased with his team's effort.  "It was a very good meet.  We had a lot of sore bodies like any team at this point, but the guys never wanted to quit.  Even when I forced them to shut it down for the night, the desire to compete was still there.  I was very proud of their effort and scoring over 150 points is a pretty good accomplishment.  Going into next week we have our big conference meet and are one week closer to the state qualifier at Van Meter"

The WCAC meet next Tuesday, May 1 is the next challenge for the Chargers.  Ogden will host this years' meet, with the the first events to begin at 4 PM.
