Van Meter Shuts Out Charger Baseball 11-0 on Friday

June 17, 2018

Following its initial win of the season on Thursday, the Charger baseball team ran into a buzz saw at Van Meter on Friday night, and suffered an 11-0 loss in five innings.  Van Meter made short work of it, scoring three runs in the first and third innings and put five sores on the board in the fourth inning.

The Chargers picked up one of its two hits for the game when Bryce Littler singled in the top of the first, but was left stranded on first base.  The Bulldogs tallied three runs in its first at bat on only one hit.  The Charger defense committed two errors on the inning and a passed ball allowed a run to score.

Two Van Meter errors in the second inning allowed Owen Hansen and Reid Rumelhart to get on base.  Hansen advanced to third on a fielder's choice, as Rumelhart was forced out at second base. Hansen and Logan Brincks were stranded on the base paths, as ACGC was unable to take advantage of the situation.

After a scoreless second for Van Meter and top of the third for the Chargers, Van Meter added three more runs to its total to take a 6-0 lead after three innings.  Two Bulldog hits, two Charger errors, and a passed ball all contributed to the Van Meter three run inning.

ACGC picked up its second and final hit of the game in the fourth inning when Ben Kingery singled, and advanced to second on a ground out, but was left stranded there.  Van Meter then had its big inning when it tallied five runs, all after there were two outs.  Solid Van Meter base hitting, and shaky Charger fielding and pitching all contributed to the deluge.

In its final at bat the Chargers went three up and three down to end the game by the ten run rule at 11-0.  The loss gives the team a 1-12 record on the season, with a chance for a second win coming on Monday when the team travels to Stuart to face West Central Valley.  The junior varsity game will begin at 5 PM with the varsity to follow.
