Lions Roar Past Charger Girls, 67-37

December 5, 2018

It didn't take Des Moines Christian very long to show who was the dominant team last night as the Lions raced to a 29-2 lead after the first quarter and then breezed to a 67-37 win over previously unbeaten ACGC.  The Chargers had a brief 2-0 lead in the first minute of play before the Lions' swatted away any challenge the home team could offer.

Lions' sophomore point guard Moriah Prewitt set the pace, scoring twelve points in the first quarter while the Chargers were able to connect on one field goal out of only four attempts.  Interestingly, after the disastrous first eight minutes, the Chargers scored 35 points to the Lions 38.  But the outcome had been decided in the first four minutes of the game when DMC grabbed a 15-2 lead.

It appeared the Chargers were intimidated in the early going, as the team committed fourteen of its twenty six turnovers in the first quarter against the relentless DMC pressure defense.  There's no doubt the Lions are a legitimate contender for the conference title, one of the two best teams ACGC will face this year.  This game was not one of those "should wins" written about in a previous article.  Hopefully a lesson was learned by the home team and it can move on to the next challenge.

The Chargers had one of their better shooting nights as they connected on 17 of 39 shots for 44%, including 2 of 5 from beyond the arc.  They attempted just three free throws for the game, converting on one.  Jadeyn Carrick came off the bench to lead the Charger scoring with 9 points, followed by Kennedy and Kylie Young who scored 8 and 7 points respectively.  Taylor Lemke snared five rebounds and Jorja Hoover had 3 assists.

With the loss, the season record stands at 3-1 (1-1 WCAC).  Up next for ACGC is a road trip to Ogden on Friday.  A freshman boys' game at 4:30 will precede the varsity girls' and boys' games.
