Charger Girls, Boys BB Teams Sweep WCV; First Doubleheader Wins for ACGC

December 18, 2018

Last night for the first time in the three year history of ACGC athletics, the girls' and boys' basketball teams both won on the same night as the Charger girls narrowly defeated West Central Valley, 47-44, while the boys routed the Wildcats 92-58.

The girls' game was nip and tuck throughout, with the Wildcats taking a 10-8 lead after the first quarter.  The Chargers then put together a seventeen point second quarter to take a 25-16 lead into the halftime break.   But that nine point lead did not last for very long, as WCV closed the gap to 37-31after three quarters.  It got even closer in the final stanza before the Chargers pulled out the 47-44 victory.
Sierra O'Brien and Jadeyn Carrick each netted 10 points for ACGC.  O'Brien scored all of her points in the first half, while Carrick got all of hers in the second half.   Kennedy Young led the team in rebounds with 8, while Jorja Hoover dished out 3 assists.  The Chargers came up with a season high 20 steals, paced by "G" Hoover with 8 and Kylie Young with 6.

The Chargers connected on 17 of 47 field goals for 36%, but only made 2 of 12 from beyond the arc.  Free throws continue to be an issue,as the team made 11 of 20 for 55%.  The win improves the girls' season record to 5-4, and 3-3 in WCAC play.

The boys' game was just the opposite of the girls' contest.  The Chargers raced to a 19-4 lead after the first quarter and added 19 more in the second quarter to hold a 38-27 lead at halftime.  After the intermission ACGC put 54 points on the board to account for its ACGC school record 92 points.

Bryce Littler had a career night for the Chargers as he split the nets for 27 points on 8 of 10 field goal shooting and 10 of 14 makes from the charity stripe.  Littler also hauled down 8 rebounds.  Sophomores Eli Kading and Lucas Marsh also scored in double figures, as did freshman HunterPauley.  Kading had 13, while Marsh and Pauley each had 10 points.   Marsh led the team in rebounds with 10, giving him a double-double on the night.  Kading, Marsh, Littler and Noah Nelson each had three assists.

The Chargers were hot from the field, as they converted on 31 of 62 field goal attempts including 10 of 25 treys.  They were 20 of 32 from the line for 63%.  With the win the boys improve to 2 wins and 5 losses for the season.

Remaining games before the holiday break include a doubleheader boys' matchup with CR-B on Thursday and a girl/boy WCAC doubleheader versus Interstate-35 on Friday.
