Charger Boys Finish Regular Season With 65-42 Win Over West Central Valley

February 8, 2019

It's a good momentum builder for a team to win a game headed into post season play, and that is exactly what the ACGC boys' basketball team accomplished last night with a 65-42 win over West Central Valley in the final Charger home game of the season.

The Chargers took the lead early on when Noah Sargent nailed a three pointer to give the Chargers a 5-4 lead.  The Chargers never trailed again in picking up its sixth win of the season to finish the regular season with a 6-15 record.

ACGC put twenty points on the board in the first quarter in taking a 20-12 lead.  A sluggish second stanza in which the Chargers went just four for sixteen from the field enabled WCV to hang around, trailing by just 30-22 at halftime.

A strong third quarter by the Chargers paced by "Q" Younker's inside game and three Charger treys--two by Miles Kading and one from Bryce Littler--enabled the team to put up twenty one points to take a 51-33 lead after three quarters.  The Chargers connected on eight of fourteen field goals in the quarter.

With the game virtually decided, the fourth quarter was a matter of determining the final score.  The Chargers outscored the Wildcats fourteen to nine to give the local boys the twenty three point win.

Balanced scoring was a key factor in the win.  Younker led the team in scoring with 15 points, but five other players scored either 8 or 9 points.  Eli Kading, Lucas Marsh and Sargent each scored 8 points, while Miles Kading and Littler had 9 apiece.   Marsh and Eli Kading led in rebounding with 7 each.  Miles Kading was tops in assists with 5 while Noah Nelson had 5 steals.

The Chargers made 40% of their field goals on 26 of 66 shooting, including 8 of 29 from three point range.  They made 5 of 6 free throws and scored on 45% of its offensive 62 possessions.

Tournament time is up next beginning this coming Monday, Feb. 11.  The Chargers will face Mount Ayr in a first round district game in Stuart with a 6:30 tipoff.  Go Chargers!
