Last Thursday at the Nodaway Valley Invitational the Charger boys' golf team was involved in an unusual way of scoring a golf tournament. Two boys shot their own ball, two were paired in best ball, and two were paired in better ball in which both played a hole with the lower score taking the hole.
"The boys had a great time and enjoyed the format," coach Lori McGivney commented following the match. "Gunnar Larsen and Nolan Wheatley finished second in the better ball competition."
The Larsen/Wheatley twosome shot an 83, just one stroke out of first place in the better ball play. Spencer Grove paced the Chargers in the traditional play with a 97, while McKlain Jorgensen shot an even 100. Eli Kading and Kael Hoing scored a 96 in the best ball competition, which was good for fourth place in that category. As a team the Chargers shot 376, good for fifth place out of the seven teams at the meet.
