State Track and Field: McDermott Places in Discus; Rain Affects Times

May 17, 2019

Day two of the state track and field meet found Madison McDermott as the lone point getter for the Charger girls' and boys' teams.  The senior completed her high school career with a sixth place finish in the discuss throw when she came up with a toss of 118'11".  Her effort was good enough to add three team points to the ACGC girls' total, giving them a total of eleven points in the meet with one day to go.

Also competing in an individual event was high jumper Chloe Largent.  Largent came into the event as the seven seed based on district meet results of last week.  The Charger freshman went 5'2" today, but just missed placing, as eight places are awarded and she came in ninth.

Two Charger relay teams ran on the blue oval today, with both girls' and boys' distance medley teams performing.  The girls' unit of Reagen Rumelhart, Savana Fuller, Audrey Stowe, and Kate Crawford crossed the finish line in 4:29.77 but failed to place among the top eight.

The boys had a similar fate as Dylan Soper, Gabe Rowley, Austin Wierick, and Clay Billheimer ran the event in 3:46.50, finishing twenty first among the twenty four relay teams entered.  Both the girls' and boys' times were not as good as in the district qualifier of last week, no doubt attributable to the constant rainfall during most of the day.

The meet will wrap up tomorrow when three Charger runners will compete in four individual events.  Crawford will run the 800 and 1500 meters, while Billheimer will be in the 800 and Noah Nelson in the 1600.  It will be the "last hurrah" for seniors Nelson and Billheimer.  Go Chargers!

Due to an hour's delay today, tomorrow's competition will begin at 8 AM, with a rolling schedule being employed which means the original schedule will not be used.  The meet's managers will move the meet along without a prescribed schedule.
