DMC Shuts Out Charger Boys, 11-0 and 10-0 to Open WCAC Play

May 24, 2019

The good news is that the rain stayed away.  The bad news is---well, suffice it to say that it wasn't a good night for the ACGC baseball team last night, as Des Moines Christian shut out the Chargers twice by scores of 11-0 and 10-0.

After a half hour delay at the start of things, the Chargers hung in there in game one, trailing 3-0 headed into the fifth inning when the Lions put together a six run fifth inning to put the game away.  Adding two more in the seventh gave the visitors its first shutout of the night.

The Chargers managed only six base runners in the opener with Avery Wheatley and Newell Rogers coming up with single base hits and Ben Kingery getting a double in the fourth inning.  Wheatley also got on base after getting hit by a pitch, while Noah Nelson reached safely by an error, and Bryce Littler coaxed a walk.

The Chargers threatened to score in their last at bat when Littler led off with a walk and Rogers came up with his single.  DMC relief pitcher Adam Whitty then struck out three consecutive batters to end the Charger threat.

Littler, Nelson, and Miles Kading shared the pitching duties for ACGC, with Littler going 4 2/3 innings, Nelson 1 1/3, and Kading one inning.  The trio gave up 15 hits, walked ten batters, and struck out three.

In game two the Chargers bats were silenced by DMC pitcher Frankie Accurso who gave up only one hit in the game which ended after six innings by the ten run rule.  The Chargers threatened to score in the fifth inning when Newell Rogers singled and Clayton Warden got on by an error. Accurso ended the treat with a strike out to end the inning.

Will Byars went 4 2/3 inning for ACGC, with Reid Rumelhart pitching the last 1 1/3 innings.  Byars gave up five hits and eight runs, only two of which were earned.  He walked one and stuck out three.  Rumelhart surrendered four runs on three hits and walked one.

After the holiday break ACGC will be in action at Ogden on Tuesday, May 28.  A JV game is scheduled for 5 PM with the varsity to follow.  Go Chargers!
