Chargers Get First Shutout in a Year; Beat Boyer Valley, 12-0, in Audubon Tourney

June 15, 2019

The Charger softball team picked up its first shutout win of the season at the Audubon tournament this morning when it defeated Boyer Valley (Dunlap) 12-0 in four innings.  It was the first shutout for ACGC since it knocked of West Harrison 5-0 exactly one year ago at the same tournament.

Charger pitcher Savana Fuller shut down the Bulldogs from the get go, setting the tone in the first inning with two strikeouts.  Fuller gave up just two hits in the shortened game, while striking out three and issuing no walks.

ACGC was a little slow in getting started for the 9 AM game, as it didn't get its first hit until the nine run third inning.  Thirteen Chargers went to the plate in the inning.  Jorja Hoover recorded two hits in the inning--a rarity.  She bunted her way on for her first hit and hit a double to left field to drive in two runs in her second at bat.  Sierra O'Brien  and Mady Kelsey also hit safely, with Kelsey clearing the bases with a triple.  The Chargers were aided by five walks or hit batters

The locals put on the finishing touches in their next at bat when they scored three runs to end the game after four innings.  Pitching woes continued to be a problem for the Bulldogs as five more Charger batters got on base via a base on balls or a hit batter.  There were no hits in the Charger final at bat.

The Chargers improved their season record to 7-11 with the win.  Two more games will be played in Audubon today, with the next opponent being either Underwood or CRB.  Go Chargers!
